Kwantlen Polytechnic University is a regionally focused undergraduate special purpose teaching institution. Situated within the Metro Vancouver area and with an operating budget of approximately $130 million, Kwantlen is a multi-sector university offering a wide array of undergraduate degree programs, trades and technology programs, and one and two-year certificate and diploma programs to 14,000 students on campuses in Surrey, Richmond, Langley and Cloverdale.
The Faculty of Arts is a newly formed unit which is the result of a merger of the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences. The new combined faculty houses 210 Faculty and approximately 6,600 students, effectively making this the University’s largest faculty.
Reporting to the Vice President Academic, the Dean, Faculty of Arts, will need to define a vision and create an umbrella under which all faculty, staff and students, from both former faculties, can pursue excellence in teaching, learning and scholarship. The new Dean will encourage a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach, support academic excellence, and promote originality in research, scholarship and teaching. He/she will build an enhanced student experience and will attract and support creative faculty members.
An accomplished academic and inspiring organizational leader, the new Dean will have earned a Ph.D. or terminal degree in a relevant discipline and have a reputation for excellent scholarship and student engagement. Drawing upon past successes at the level of Dean, Associate Dean, Chair, or as Director of an Institute or Centre of significant scope, the successful candidate will promote the faculty both internally and externally and take the Faculty of Arts to new heights.

CONFIDENTIAL ASSISTANT – Competition Number 12- 53
The University Secretariat at Kwantlen Polytechnic University has an opening for a regular full-time Confidential Assistant at our Langley campus. In this position, you will perform a variety of administrative and secretarial functions in support of Senate, the Board of Governors and their committees.
As the successful candidate, you will possess strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills as well as excellent computer skills. Discretion, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are essential to this role. You will be skilled in recording and transcribing accurate meeting minutes and will use advanced word processing abilities and proficiency in spreadsheet, database and presentation software applications to prepare correspondence and reports.
The successful candidate will have a post-secondary diploma or certificate in office administration or related area of study plus a minimum of five years of progressive administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in a post-secondary environment is an asset.
