The English Department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University would like to congratulate Manabu Seki, this year’s recipient of the Georgia Milligan Scholarship for Excellence in English. After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree with a Major in English, Manabu plans to volunteer in an outreach program abroad as he waits to be accepted into SFU’s PDP program or UBC’s Education program. We wish him success as he pursues his life-long dream of becoming a high school teacher.

2010 Scholarship Recipient: Janet Eastwood

Congratulations to Janet Eastwood, this year’s recipient of the Georgia Milligan Scholarship for Excellence in English! Janet is the second student to be awarded this scholarship, which honours our dear friend and colleague, Georgia Milligan, by supporting a student who has shown outstanding promise in the BA English Major degree program. After completing her undergraduate studies (she is also minoring in History) in the Fall of 2011, Janet plans on pursuing a Master’s degree. Her long-term goal is to become an editor, a vocation that will allow her to apply her love of English language and writing. We are happy to support Janet in the final year of her studies, and wish her success as she pursues her passion for English

With this award, Georgia's friends and colleagues honour her memory by supporting a student who has shown outstanding promise in the Bachelor of Arts - English Major degree program. We are proud to announce that Kylie Van Eaton is the first recipient of the Georgia Milligan Scholarship for Excellence in English. Kylie is in the final year of her Bachelor of Arts in English. After leaving Kwantlen she plans to attend graduate school or enter the PDP program at SFU. Upon completion of these additional degrees Kylie intends to become a teacher or counselor within the school setting. Kylie enjoys working with children and youth and wants to impact their lives positively. We are happy to support Kylie on her journey.


Overview of Scholarship

Georgia Milligan Scholarship for Excellence in English

Georgia Milligan was a beloved member of the Kwantlen English Department from 2003 until 2006. With this award, Georgia's friends and colleagues honour her memory by supporting a student who has shown outstanding promise in the Bachelor of Arts - English Major degree program.

The successful applicant will meet the following criteria:

  • Be a declared English major at Kwantlen Polytechnic University with the intent of completing his or her degree at Kwantlen.
  • Score the highest GPA in 21 credits of English courses, including up to nine credits of 2000-level courses, and at least 12 credits of 3000- or 4000-level courses.

Award Amount: $750 Application Deadline: September 30 (students meeting eligibility criteria will be automatically considered)
